B52 Cafe, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

We rushed from our campsite at West Branch State Park in Ohio and high-tailed it on to Pennsylvania so that we could park, get unloaded, and meet up with Hayden’s friend Leila for brunch. We were cutting it close to closing time so Leila went ahead and got a table and ordered for us so that we didn’t have to keep them open any longer than they needed to be. Unfortunately, they had run out of pancakes, which Hayden had been craving lately so she was bummed that she couldn’t have those. Overall, this was one of the better meals we’ve had in a while and we recommend you check out B52 if you’re coming through Pittsburgh.

What we ordered

Avocado Toast- with Preserved Lemon, Tahini Sauce, Black Sesame.  Aaron is not a super huge fan massive amounts of avocado and so he can really only eat a couple of bites before he’s read to move on.  But Hayden loved this and thought it was an extremely good appetizer.

Fried cauliflower- Tahini, Garlic, Lemon.  While the cauliflower was seasoned perfectly and roasted well, the real star of the dish is tahini sauce that it comes with.  We could eat this every day and will definitely be figuring out a way to try and implement it into our meals at home.

Avocado Salad- Preserved Lemon, Radish, Green Onion, Pita Chips, Tahini Dressing.  This salad was loaded with avocado and we’re not complaining! It was fresh and crisp and the tahini dressing gave it great flavor. We didn’t finish the whole thing and took it to go. A couple hours later, it was still delicious!

Kofta Tofu Scramble- Spicy Seitan Kofta, Kale, Pita Chips.  B52 makes their own seitan in-house and it really takes this dish up to a whole new level. Aaron mixed all of the items together and then covered it with the spicy sauce that they provide and it created such an incredible depth of flavor with a nice amount of heat.  The only way this could have been better is wrapped up in a burrito shell!

Cashew Cheese Flatbread. Kalamata Olives, Fried Tomatoes. The cashew cheese was really good on this pizza. The olives were a little overpowering, but Hayden loves olives, so she thought it was delicious. They sell the cashew cheese in a little deli counter and we wish we would have picked some up!

Overall, this restaurant is a must visit if you’re in Pittsburgh, PA. Don’t miss it!
