Cape Ann Campground, Gloucester, Massachusetts

We originally wanted to stay near Cape Cod, but we had a hard time finding a campsite since it was the end of the season.  Fortunately, we found Cape Ann Campground near Gloucester, Massachusetts to set down for two weeks.  Being in Gloucester, we were close to both Salem, where we wanted to spend Friday the 13th and Boston, where Hayden wanted to visit some of her friends.

Our space was off on the perimeter of the campground, which was nice to not be right on the main road coming into the RV park. We had a great view of the water from our front door. Our neighbors left after the first week, so we had a few days of completely unobstructed views. The tide came and went, which was neat to see as well. We were also able to see the beautiful Harvest Moon rise right in front of us.

The campground itself isn’t really much to write home about.  The office has a very small selection of supplies, things like hoses, extension cords, sewer hoses and an even smaller selection of groceries.  There is a bathhouse which includes showers, but we were on full hookups so we didn’t ever take advantage of those.  The dumpsters are up near the bathhouse which was inconveniently about as far away from our site as you could get.  In order to get our trash up there, we had to drive the truck otherwise we’d have to walk around to the main entrance, then up the hill to the office area.

The people that work here are great and super helpful.  The entire process from getting checked in, finding our spot, finding that our hookups were on the wrong side of our RV, and even getting helpful tips on the beach that was nearby, everyone was pleasant and willing to help out.

Overall, the proximity to Salem and Boston was nice, but the campground was one of the more expensive ones we had stayed at and we weren’t really sure what we were getting for our money.  For the amount of money we paid, we would probably look at some of the other options in the area to see how they compare with amenities and location.
