Trew Love Sanctuary, Bostic, North Carolina

We met Trisha and Drew through the “vegans with chickens” Facebook group and it was a no-brainer that we would try and link up while we were in Asheville so that we could visit their sanctuary and try and shine a spotlight on the great work that they are doing.  We drove about an hour outside of Asheville to get there and met up with them at their house where they gave us a quick rundown of their sanctuary, how long they have been working on it, and what their plans are for the future.  We then went back to the actual sanctuary area.

One of the first things we realized is the incredible amount of work that they have already done with the limited resources that they have available to them.  It is literally just the two of them running the sanctuary and saving the lives of about 100 animals while also trying to create better housing and environments for all of them. It was clear immediately that they have an extremely strong passion for each and every animal that they’ve brought into their sanctuary.

They’ve just recently moved into their new location so while we were visiting, they were still setting up a lot of the different enclosures.  Scattered throughout the sanctuary you could see piles of raw materials that would become a new duck area, or new chicken houses, or even pig fields.  They definitely have grandiose ideas and are putting together the plans for creating what will become a really fantastic sanctuary.  They have plans to use mostly recycled materials, create nature trails, grow a garden, and teach the community about being compassionate vegans.  They are also planning on creating a campground.  So exciting!

That being said, it’s not easy to run a sanctuary, and it’s also not cheap.  While they are doing a phenomenal job on their own with the limited volunteer staff that they get, they are on track to do some incredible work with a little assistance.  Anything from providing antibiotics for their goats to spaying and neutering the animals that need it can really make a massive difference, and will really save lives.  They are also looking for volunteers of all skill levels.  Check out their website and give them a share or a donation to help out a fantastic cause.
