Savannah, Georgia doesn’t have very many vegan options, but Fox & Fig Cafe is absolutely incredible. It’s so good, that we came to eat here twice! It’s in a great part of town, has a cute little outside dining area, offers takeaway options from a glass case and has incredibly delicious food.
What We Ordered
Plant Food Plank (cheese plate)- Miyoko’s Aged Cheeses, Hibiscus Jam, Olive-Walnut Tapenade, Pickled Vegetables, Fig Salami, Rainbow Microgreens, & Toast. We ordered this on both occasions that we dined there and they were a little different each time, which was kind of nice. The first time we got the fig salami, but not the tapenade, and the second time it was the other way around. So, it was great to have a little variety! This cheese plate is one of the best we’ve ever had at any restaurant. The fig salami was super innovative and had a great smoky flavor, the cheese is amazing, of course, because it’s Miyoko’s, the pickled vegetables were incredible, plus pairing the sweetness of the berries and jam with the savory of the salami and cheese is actually a delicious combination. We basically scraped the plate because we didn’t want to leave anything behind- fantastic!
Seared Southern Seitan + French Toast w/ Cholula-Maple Syrup- Braised Chickpea-Seitan, Banana-Battered Auspicious Baking Co. French Toast, Cholula Hot Sauce, Vermont Maple Syrup. This is basically french toasts version of chicken and waffles and it was incredible! The entire dish is jam-packed full of flavor. Each bite takes you through a delicate dance of flavors starting with the immediate sweetness of the cinnamon and syrup which slowly rolls into a heat-infused glaze covering the seitan. Sure to satisfy your palette as the seitan is not chewy but more like the consistency someone would want from ribs.
Garlic Herb Flatbread- House-Made Italian Sausage, Cashew Mozzarella, Blistered Cherry Tomatoes, Roasted Garlic Pesto, Caramelized Onion, Arugula. This flatbread was a HUGE portion, which was great because we didn’t want it to end, it was that good. The pickled onions on top gave a great pop of flavor and contrasted nicely with the smokiness of the sausage crumbles and creaminess of the cheese. The garlic pesto sauce added amazing flavor and the arugula gave the dish a much-needed lightness.
Bahn Mi- Maple-Ginger-Tamari Glazed Seitan, Sriracha Mayo, Key Lime Ginger Pickled Carrots, Cilantro, on Ciabatta, served with Agave-Dijon Slaw. The seitan had an amazing Asian coating and paired really well with the pickled carrots and cilantro. The ciabatta bread was warm, so it was easy to bite into. The slaw was fantastic and had a really nice tangy Asian flavor to it. The only problem is there wasn’t more of it!
Breakfast Hash w/ Cashew Hollandaise- Sweet Potato, Russet Potato, Cauliflower, Asparagus, Shiitake Bacon, Bell Pepper, Caramelized Onion, Cashew Hollandaise, with Corn Tortillas & House-Seasoned Impossible Sausage. Aaron isn’t usually a big fan of sweet potatoes, but they were fantastic when paired with the sausage, veggies, and hollandaise. Definitely, order the tortillas and sausage as extras. Their hot sauce gives a nice heat but be careful., it’s got the Carolina reaper in it so if you’re not a big fan of spicy food, go easy on it. Overall it’s super filling and a great breakfast/ brunch dish!
Do not, do not, do not miss this place if you come through Savannah, it was absolute perfection! If you only get to go once, definitely get the cheese plate, the seitan french toast, and the flatbread.
