Roadblocks

istock_000036032472_mediumWe haven’t written a blog post in awhile because it seems like we have been hitting one roadblock after another. It has been a very disheartening experience, trying to buy a truck and trailer. Because we have pretty terrible credit, we have been denied time and time again for RV loans.

The entire point of why we are planning on living the full-time RV lifestyle, is that we want to get out of debt and save money. It’s a catch 22; we are trying to fix our credit, but can’t get a loan to buy an RV, which we need to fix our credit…

It’s been very upsetting for us to find a trailer that we like, plan out how we will accommodate all of our travel companions (a part-time kid, 5 cats, a dog, & chicken), just to have our dreams ripped out from underneath us over and over again.

Our last post was about how we purchased an Expedition. Unfortunately, that deal fell through. A long story short: we had the new vehicle for a week, before we were told that the bank wanted to give us a higher % APR on the loan, which increased our (already ridiculously high) monthly payment. We hadn’t negotiated the sticker price of the vehicle when we bought it, so we asked them to come down on the front end, to make the monthly payment the same that we had agreed upon. After being jerked around a bunch of times, they finally said they would come down to the agreed upon monthly payment. However, the negotiation and the lies we were told, was SO off putting, that we were turned off completely from the entire thing. We said we would rather just get the truck back that we traded in and walk away. This threw the salesman into an uproar and he wouldn’t give us back the truck. After realizing that we weren’t going to budge, they reluctantly gave us our truck back, but then refused to give back the money that we had put down. It took almost 2 weeks for us to receive the funds back. It was a COMPLETE NIGHTMARE.

I never want to buy a car again… but we are still right where we were when we started, with a truck that won’t pull the weight of any decent trailer and without a trailer.

I think, in hindsight, having this terrible experience at the car dealership was a blessing in disguise. We would have been stuck with an SUV that didn’t have a very large towing capacity and we would have been very limited on the trailer we can get.

As for the trailer, we have found a co-signer to help us out and we are waiting on pins and needles to hear the final verdict of whether or not we can get a loan.

FINGERS CROSSED!
