We have been on this adventure for a month now, but so far it hasn’t quite felt like much of an adventure. It feels more like we just moved into a really small space, with a much cheaper rent payment (which is awesome!) It will still be another 2 months before we get to hit the open road.
There are still some things we need to wrap up here in Central Texas before we are able to head out. First and foremost, we’re getting married in 10 days! We are both very excited about our upcoming wedding and are looking forward to having our immediate family and a couple close friends come to check out our new digs and celebrate our nuptials.
We also have some items in storage that we still need to figure out what to do with. We have some old memories that can never be replaced and some antique furniture that we cannot get rid of, so we are still trying to figure out what is going to happen with these items. Paying a monthly storage fee would not be ideal, so our other option is to leave a couple boxes at our parents house to hold onto for us.
Another hurdle is that while I am working from home, currently Hayden is not. It does not make much sense to rush out of the gate and cut off an entire salary just to get going on the road. Hayden is looking for a remote job, so we can still continue to make enough money that will allow us to get out of debt in the next couple years.
Finally we have some towing and hauling upgrades we need to get done before we leave. While the truck can pull the weight of the trailer, we want to install some airbags to help with the suspension so we aren’t riding as low. The Roadmaster Active Suspension was recommended to us. We also need to install an Equalizer Hitch so that we are swinging all over the road every time a semi drives past us. Nothing makes me develop white knuckle syndrome quite like an 18 wheeler sucking you in towards his rig…
That being said, we DO have an official “launch date” for when we will be pulling up the jacks and hitting the road. We are leaving San Marcos on February 11th, 2017 and will be heading to Big Bend National Park. We are planning on making our way towards LA to spend some time with Hayden’s side of the family, celebrating our wedding, and then making our way to Indiana to do the same with my side of the family.
Our stops between February and April 2017 include: Big Bend National Park, Tucson/ Saguaro National Park, Joshua Tree National Park, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Santa Fe, Nashville, and then Indiana. After Indiana, we will be heading towards the North East, before heading down to Florida for the winter. Can’t wait to spend a month (or two!) on the Keys. Heaven.
Until then, please continue to enjoy our photos of all of our fur kids on our Instagram as well as our musings on both Twitter and Facebook. We can’t wait to share this adventure with you all!

I am certainly enjoying watching you and your family on your journey. Safe Travels and congrats to you two!
Thank you!!! We are just getting warmed up and the best has yet to come.
Your time is rapidly approaching. We did the same Nov 1 when we officially turned our rental home over to the estate sales people. We have a small storage rented in Temple Texas filled with the things we can’t part with yet and our college freshmans bedroom furniture. She will be getting an apartment at the end of May. She is in San Marcos at Texas State. December 1 we came to Harlingen Texas to Tropic Winds RV park. This has been my dream for 20 years as my parents moved to Rio Grande Valley when they retired and stayed until my dad passed. I love it here and since we are in our 60’s we may just stay here. I don’t think we want to travel around that much but time will tell especially in the hot summer. I have seen a lot of traveling cat ideas. Most involve attaching crates to windows and installing a pet flap. I thought that would be an excellent place for stinky litter boxes. I think you could rig a tunnel out of black unused sewer pipe running to a large crate or pen on the ground as well. We have a large and a small dog. I would love to have a pig but doubt that will ever happen. Well good luck to you. Happy camping.
It is rapidly approaching! We just closed down our storage shed and have finished our truck upgrades so now we are just biding our time until the day arrives. Yes, the summer here is incredibly hot and I think we’ll be more in the north when that hits as I don’t want to see what it’s like in a camper when it’s 110+ degrees outside!
