Well, we’ve done it. We’ve packed all of our belongings into the RV, set aside everything else that’s going into storage and donated the rest. We’re now at our first stopping point where we will be for the next 3 months, give or take a few days, where we have some travel commitments. So far, things are great!
We already hit our first learning experience last night when we were setting everything up. I went to attach the water pressure regulator to our water source and didn’t realize that there was something sticking out of there which ended up popping the screen and messing up the gasket inside of it. Not even 5 minutes after landing and we were already having to make our first repair! Luckily, Lowe’s had replacement gasket / screens and the whole fix only ended up costing $2. Plus we have a spare if we run into this issue again.
We capped off our first night in the RV with some pizza and some much needed beer / wine to recover from several days of intense packing, moving, and loading.
After a surprisingly restful night’s sleep, I had to get up and get to work at my day job. Being in web development, I need a lot of extras in order to do my job efficiently. So each day, I will have to pull out all of my equipment, set it all up on the dinette or outside if the weather is nice, work all day, then pack up shop and put everything away. It’s a bit of a change for me as I’m used to having 3-4 monitors, plus my laptop, plus a ton of extra space on my desk. A small price to pay in order to have a rotating back-yard with incredible views of this country.
We took Lulu for a walk during my lunch break down to the San Marcos River. It’s incredible that we only have to walk about 5 minutes or so to be around water. The water is a little rough and the temperature outside is not too hot, otherwise I’d be interested in jumping in there for a few minutes.
I look forward to actually doing some grocery shopping and being able to cook. While I do enjoy eating different foods and the convenience of picking something up to eat, I can definitely tell a lot of it is outside of our diet and I can just feel the difference from the way we normally feel. Plus I REALLY want to break in the outdoor kitchen!
All in all, it doesn’t feel like we’re in a tiny trailer with 5 cats, a dog, and a chicken. Everyone seems to have their own space and are all settling in quite nicely. I’m sure there are days where it will feel cramped and everyone is on top of each other, but it’s nice to see the boys, Lulu, and Brienne finding their own space.
We still have a few things left to unpack and put in their place and then we will put together a video or photos of our setup as soon as that is finished.
Stay tuned!

Congratulations! so much to learn, but what a view!!!
Thank you! I’m sure there will be plenty of “Whoops!” moments in our future, but the trade off for what we get to see and experience is well worth it!
