Spending a week around Lake Ontario

For only spending a week in the area, we crammed about as much as we could into the days we had available to us.  Not only did we experience all of this, but we were both visited by friends that we haven’t seen in quite some time.  Hayden’s friend Chris came up to take us on our wine tour and Aaron’s high school friend Liz and her husband lived nearby so they came by and had a bonfire with us one night.

Where we stayed

We stayed at Four Mile Creek in Youngstown, New York which put is in a great spot to visit all of the attractions we wanted to see.  It was a beautiful state park, but was not our favorite location to stay in.  You can read more about what we loved and didn’t in our full review.

What we did

Toronto Food Tour

Toronto has a massive amount of vegan food options available so we wanted to get up there and try as many of them as possible.  We ended up visiting six different restaurants in total so we put together an entire post reviewing all of the food that we tried which you can read about in our Toronto Food Tour post.  We also got to sit down with one of the owners of Yamchops to discuss the history of the shop, why vegan, and what you can expect from a vegan butcher.  You can watch the full video and interview in our post here.

Wine tasting in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Niagara-on-the-Lake is known for the amount of wineries that are packed into such a small area and also for the ice wine they make because of the weather.  We visited several wineries, a cider house, and even a distillery in just a few short hours!  Check out our full write-up to see what all we tried, which wines were our favorite, and which place left us somewhat disappointed.

Niagara Falls

One of the things Aaron has been looking forward to on our trip was seeing Niagara Falls on the US/Canadian border.  We knew they were impressive to view them from above, but Hayden suggested we get on the boat and view them from water level which was an incredible experience.  It’s just too bad we lost all of our video footage due to a hard drive crash!

We ended up taking the Maids of the Mist tour on the US side of the falls which loaded us up into a boat and gave us stylish blue parkas to wear.  As we got closer to the falls, we quickly realized that they were absolutely a necessity because we got drenched!  If you’re going to take a trip to the falls, we highly recommend getting on the boat to experience them!
