Sugar and Spice, Cambridge, Massachusetts

We ended up technically eating at Sugar and Spice twice in the same day as we were meeting some of Hayden’s friends for dinner and we showed up way too early, so we got a couple of appetizers and some drinks.  The appetizers weren’t the greatest things in the world, but the dinners were really good.  If you’re in Cambridge, Massachusetts and looking for a good vegan Thai restaurant, we recommend checking out Sugar and Spice.

What we ordered

Gyoza- Choice of meat or vegetable. Steamed or fried. We obviously went with the vegetable gyoza and chose the fried option.  It came with a soy-based dipping sauce which rounded out the flavor.  Overall they were good but they weren’t amazing.

Thai fried dumplings- Thai style pan-fried vegetable dumpling.  We weren’t quite sure what to expect when we ordered these since they sounded similar to gyoza.  These were also pretty good and had a different texture/taste than the gyoza, but again, were good and not amazing.

Drunken Noodle- Flat rice noodles, chick’n, and vegetables in basil sauce.   This is Aaron’s go-to dish whenever it is offered and this was just as good as he had hoped.  The only downside to this dish is that it was supposed to be spicy and there was absolutely no spice to it whatsoever.  Other than that, it had really good flavor and texture of the noodles was really good, which can often be a downfall of the dish.

Virgin garden- Flavorful steamed or fried tofu with mixed vegetables. This was a really flavorful and impactful dish that came with a lighter sauce that soaked into the rice.  The tofu was crispy and soaked up the sauce well and the vegetables were cooked really well. Overall, it was a simple but delicious dish.
